Below is a list and photo of the drumset that was used for the COAT OF ARMS recording and the DIRTY JAZZ (ICONOCLAST) recording as it was set up at the Water Music recording studio in Hoboken, New Jersey. That set had the addition of a 6" roto tom and a 14" floor tom. Usually a 5 piece kit is used - bass, snare, 2 rack toms and a floor tom.
For most tours the "house drums" at each venue are used. The variety of drum sets can be seen on this site and on photos and videos on the ICONOCLAST and DOCTOR NERVE web sites. Ciesa modifies and customizes some of his instruments: Cymbals have been cut / bent, the double bass drum pedal has been altered to where the left foot heel can play the hi-hat. Sticks, drum heads and cymbals get customized into artwork after they're used up (see photos at the bottom of the Bio page).
Leo Ciesa plays ProMark drum sticks and mallets exclusively. The sticks he prefers are the ProMark marching models which are very durable sticks with a low pitch cymbal response.
